Watching Tech So You Don’t Have to Get Burned By It (Again)

I’ve spent decades inside the tech industry and not pressed up against the glass, but actually in the building, often at the keyboard, breaking things, fixing the things I broke, and shipping the things that eventually landed on your desktop, running on servers that have uptime in thousands of days. That’s where this site comes from: the scars, not the spectator seats.

Tech has a pattern problem, and it’s an incurable one that’s just sped up with the introduction of AI. The same mistakes show up in a slightly better AI-slop font. The same overpromises get a fresh coat of “revolutionary.” The same tired ideas get rebranded, relaunched, and re-hyped by people who were, statistically, still in middle school the first time we tried this. When you’ve been in the industry long enough, you stop being surprised, we sit back, sip our coffee, and watch the innovation-shaped déjà vu roll in right along with the latest release.

Pippi Tech Stalking exists to point at that pattern, loudly, in a human voice, and occasionally with the enthusiasm of someone watching a slow-motion car crash she predicted 5 weeks, 5 months or 5 years ago.

What This Site Actually Is

This isn’t a hype machine and I never owned a set of pom-poms. It’s also not a takedown blog engineered for rage-clicks. Seriously, I promise you, I have better hobbies than manufacturing outrage about a font choice.

What it is: an honest, occasionally gleeful, occasionally exasperated look at where tech is actually heading, what’s being promised, and what’s actually landing in a Gutenberg block and written by someone who has sat close enough to the machine to hear it wheeze in a freezing server room.

I hold tech accountable for the real influence it has on real people, because that influence doesn’t land evenly. The companies building this stuff move on to the next release cycle, popping champagne and updating their roadmap slides, but never seem to look at how it impacts the people using it. That’s often you or… possibly your grandmother, definitely someone’s grandmother who family ends up supporting are the ones stuck living with whatever got shipped at 11:58 pm before the build pipeline went out.

What You Can Expect Here

• Honesty, even when it’s deeply inconvenient for the company whose PR team is definitely going to email me
• Integrity, in how I evaluate and write about what’s actually happening, not what the press release insists is happening
• A user-first lens, because you’re the one who has to live with a bad product’s quirks or sing a good one’s praises from the rooftops and not the executive who greenlit it from a conference room with a view

You will hopefully come here first and not the vendor or the hype cycle. Not whatever buzzword is trending this quarter unless you want to come here to hear me make fun of it.
